Now Above All Home Care is a service-based business. We do companion care. We are licensed by the state of Oklahoma to be a sitter companion service. This is where we come to a client’s house and we act as a companion for the client. We assist them with many different tasks that may be needed throughout the day. We are able to be with our clients for as long as needed and we have some clients that use us 24 hours a day. While others use us for a minimum of 4 hours.
What is Companion care?
Companion care can be looked at in a few different ways. one of the most direct ways to explain it is that we are a babysitting service for senior citizens. Now as you can see that can be a huge turnoff. Most grown-ups would cringe at the thought that they need a babysitter and I would agree. The term baby sitter is demeaning to the clients we serve. Yet when we explain to others what we do that is the mental link they jump on.
Yet what we do is more than just babysitting. We also assist our clients to live their day-to-day life. We can do an assortment of light chores around the house from meal planning and preparation to l changing the bed linens. We also help our clients with getting dressed and can transport them to different engagements if they don’t drive. Not only do we give your elderly parents someone to interact with we also can help them keep a clean house. We allow them to maintain their independence when they don’t have to go to a nursing home or assisted living facility.
The companion aspect is also worth pointing out too. When there is another human that an elderly person is able to interact with it keeps their mental faculties sharp. So a companion service is able to help senior citizens on several different levels.
Who is companion care for?
It can be for anybody. If you are someone who is needing some slight assistance because of an illness or injury. A companion service can come in and assist you with your limitation. This is why companion services are a great help to the elderly. They are often still able to move around. They can still get up on their own power yet many times they are at a bit of a risk of falling. Many elderly also need help with medication reminders or with meals. A companion care service like Above All Home Care does become invaluable.
Many of the healthcare facilities aren’t sure what we do. Many actually believe that we are in direct competition with them and we aren’t. Most of the time home health care companies aren’t able to stay at one person’s house for an extended amount of time, or they can and it gets very expensive. The difference between us and home health is that we aren’t medical. So if there is a need for checking vitals and other health-related needs. We are again, hands-off and non-health-related companionship.
When do you need companion care?
Companion care becomes needed when a person is needing some assistance in their day-to-day life. We can help with assorted chores and errands that need to be run but we are limited by regulations as to the type of help we can provide. We are as “No Touch” as you can be. If you have to be lifted out of a bed, We sadly can’t help. That is something a more qualified person in state terms has to do. So if you need us to help pull you because you have to have someone pick you up out of a chair. We aren’t able to do lifting or handing out medication. So we are able to remind you it’s med time but we are not able to handle your meds for you.
So when you need some assistance or your mom is still able to get up under her own power but is getting a little unsteady. If Mom is at the house all the time and has no company. That is our queue. We can straighten up a house and prepare a healthy meal We can watch a television show with your loved one, but we are not medical in nature.
If you are wanting to have someone sit with a loved one while they are in a hospital, or they are at the end stages of hospice but you aren’t able to stay, this we can also do. Companion Care allows you to get important things done and ensure that your loved one isn’t by themselves.
How can companion care help a family?
Companion Care is able to help not just the senior members of a family but the whole family. We can step in and help when you are overwhelmed. We can sit with mom or dad while you go to work. Our service allows you to maintain a livelihood while also ensuring that your loved ones are looked after. If Hospice is coming we are able to sit with them. If your loved one is still as healthy as a horse but you just need the extra peace of mind. Companion Care is there to help you in a pinch or as a longer-term method of assisting.

That is the question. Most of the time there is some type of companion care service. We don’t often get the recognition we would like simply because of the misunderstanding that we are home care, not home health care. Yet if you look online for home care or home companion care in my area you most likely will find some services in your imidate area. We are located in the Western Oklahoma area.
